CONTEXT
This project, developed for the Coalition for Haredi Employment, is part of an ongoing strategic cooperation aimed at creating pathways to quality employment for Haredi men. The Coalition identified the construction industry as a field with dual impact: encouraging quality employment for the Haredi community while simultaneously alleviating the chronic labor shortages in construction by recruiting and training motivated workers for innovative roles.
CHALLENGE
The task was to identify and promote the most promising “construction careers of the future” that not only meet the evolving demands of the industry but also align with the socio-cultural context of the Haredi community. These roles needed to offer quick training paths, competitive starting salaries, and opportunities for career advancement.
This project was part of a series of synchronized actions, which also involved collaboration with training facilities, potential employers, and prospective workers to develop comprehensive and sustainable pathways to quality employment.
OUR APPROACH
In this project, we employed a variety of methodologies in an iterative process, leveraging the collective knowledge and expertise of diverse stakeholders, including employers, policymakers, potential workers, scholars, and the Haredi community.
We began with a comprehensive international review to identify emerging trends and professions in the construction sector. This was followed by a detailed analysis tailored to the Israeli market, including expert interviews and an online survey to identify the most promising career paths that fit the criteria we developed.
FINDINGS AND IMPACT
We created a knowledge map that analyzed global trends in construction and their impact on the local market. After identifying the most promising career paths based on all available data and estimates, we developed detailed profiles for three career paths with the highest potential to integrate the Haredi workforce effectively. Currently, we continue to work with the Coalition for Haredi Employment to develop practical and effective strategies for communication, recruitment, training, and creating a suitable working environment for future Haredi workers.
