CONTEXT
Zionism 2000 is an NGO in Israel which promotes economic growth and secures employment across several key industry sectors, including automotive, construction, metalworking, and logistics. Their “Flywheel” project aims to forge partnerships between major employers to protect and develop these sectors.
CHALLENGE
Zionism 2000 faced challenges in effectively presenting their value proposition to industry partners and needed a way to forecast the future of the metalworking ecosystem.
This foresight was crucial for preparing both employers and potential employees for upcoming demographic shifts and technological advancements. Notably, the metalworking sector anticipated a significant percentage of engineers reaching retirement age within 5-8 years, coupled with expected technological changes.
APPROACH
Our team embarked on a comprehensive research journey, starting with a systematic mapping of the problem to understand the intricate root-cause relationships within the industry. Through a series of workshops and extensive literature reviews, we gained insights into both global and local trends affecting the sector.
Further, we conducted in-depth interviews with factory owners, government representatives from the Ministry of the Economy and Industry, and industry associations to thoroughly map the ecosystem. Utilizing social media networks for qualitative research, we identified the primary needs of employees. This enabled us to categorize metalworking factories and potential employees into distinct types, setting the groundwork for a targeted matchmaking system within the industry.
FINDINGS AND IMPACT
Our efforts culminated in the development of “CNC 2030,” a strategic roadmap designed to address both present and future challenges in the metalworking industry. This roadmap guided Zionism 2000 in focusing on existing labor forces and provided a framework for attracting new, skilled workers through detailed career mapping. Additionally, we created a narrative and presentation tailored for Zionism 2000 that enhanced their ability to build and sustain partnerships. The impact of this project manifested in several ways:
- Strategic Workforce Alignment: By categorizing factories and potential employees, we facilitated a matching system which aligns worker motivations with employer needs, fostering a more robust and cohesive industry ecosystem.
- Adaptive Career Planning: The development of detailed career paths for prospective employees helped retain existing talent and attract new workers, focusing on appealing attributes like entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity.
- Future-Proofing Industries: Our foresight into identifying factory types with the potential to create sustainable working environments enabled Tsionit 2000 to prioritize efforts towards the most promising sectors, such as entrepreneurial “Tesla-type” factories and revitalizing sectors like medical cannabis.
